Ready Player One

Book #16 – so close to completing this item with so much time to spare! Of the books on my list so far, this is by far my favorite. I am entertained by most books – it’s very rare that I don’t finish a book – but this is the first book I’ve read in a while that I did not want to put down when I was reading.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline isĀ another high school level dystopian novel set in a future that is basically run by computers. A Bill Gates-type character, Halliday, creates a virtual world in which every person has an avatar in order to compete in games, earn items and credits, even go to school. Upon Halliday’s death, he launches a world-wide contest in this virtual world in order to win his inheritance. This is the story of the guy who wins (he tells you this early on – so no spoiler I promise).

It’s creative, action-packed, and filled with fun ’80s and ’90s pop culture references. I highly recommend it!
