Sadly reading has taken a backburner lately to studying for the GRE (can you hear the excitement in the voice….??), but this weekend I finally made it through The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta. This is the second book I’ve read written by this author and his writing style It was a very interesting and entertaining read. One day, part of the world’s population simply disappears. The rapture? Some think so, but the ones who were gone were not the ones you would think or who were described in Revelation.
The story follows a number of people who are left behind. How they react, what groups they form, what they believe happened, how they continue on in life. Important note, this is purely fictional. It does not have any basis in the Bible at all (other than the believe that something like this will happen one day). But it was an interesting take on the rapture, or end of days, or whatever you want to call it. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t love the ending – kind of abrupt like his other book. But I guess sometimes it’s ok to leave everything not wrapped up with a pretty bow!
It’s an HBO series (interesting choice instead of a movie), which I don’t have access to but maybe one day!
