Maybe my expectations were too high or maybe I have just come to the end of my love for post-apocalyptic, dystopian fiction, but I did not love The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. It was fine, but it did not blow me away. It was a little long and drawn out at times, having such a level of detail that the story dragged. And even though it was discussed throughout, I still couldn’t tell you what all the waves were, which seems to be an important detail to the story. The last 10% of the book was fantastic, except the ending that expectedly leaves you hanging, requiring you to keep reading the second book. Haven’t decided yet if I will read it. I did like the different perspectives throughout the book, though it was not always immediately clear whose perspective the story changed to. I have not seen the movie but may or may not see it – it did not get rave reviews.
Time to move on to a lighthearted, fun summer read!
