Things in Jars

I’m a little behind schedule to meet my reading goal for 2020, but I’m thinking I’ll be able to make it up during the week vacation we have coming up. I am SO excited. Things in Jars by Jess Kidd was probably the most unique novel I’ve read this year. It started a little slow but definitely picked up and drew me in the more I read. It felt very Sherlock Holmes but with a sci-fi twist.

Bridie is a female detective in London and is hired to find the kidnapped daughter of an English nobleman. But it turns out she is no typical child. Bridie must make her way through history, science, and folklore to make sense of this mysterious girl and what may have happened to her. She also has to confront her own past as demons from her childhood make their way into the crazy chase of child and kidnappers.

I definitely recommend it but make sure you get through the beginning, which is a little confusing as you learn who the characters are. Enjoy!
