Play Dirty

I got a free Kindle Unlimited trial with my new Kindle and have mostly enjoyed the free book selection. It takes a little more weeding through and there aren’t current New York Times bestsellers, but it lets me find new authors, new genres, and new books!

Play Dirty by Sandra Brown was more on the not enjoyed side. If you don’t like football, you won’t like this book. I could power through because I do like football but there were multiple times I considered not finishing this book. Griff Burkett is a former NFL player released from prison after serving time for betting on NFL games, including his own, and affecting the outcomes of those games. Upon his release, he immediately is approached by a local business celebrity who has a very strange proposal for him to help he and his wife get pregnant. At the same time, he is being followed by a crooked cop. And from there it’s just one thing after another.

I realize that most of what I read is fiction and is not true, but this storyline just seemed SO outlandish. And it seemed to be written in a way that it could happen. It was not really my cup of tea but I did finish it. It has 4.5 stars on Amazon, so someone likes it! Maybe you will.

The Vandy boys made history two days ago by becoming bowl eligible 2 years in a row for the first time. Ever.

I realize all you other SEC team fans may find this humorous and cute, but really it just means you should watch out.  Vandy will no longer be the laughing stock of the SEC or your sympathy game.  Coach James Franklin is on fire and he is going to keep pushing, keep winning, and better yet, keep recruiting. Get ready boys, this ain’t your mama’s Vanderbilt Football team any longer.

#52. Tailgate food

Another item completed!! I wanted to put my creative juices to the test this football season and take a different food item to every tailgate (minus the first home game because I was at a wedding during the tailgate). This proved to be a little more difficult that I imagined. I completed the task…but got very lazy by the end of the season. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with store-bought food for things….but I do really enjoy making a delicious recipe to share. Here’s the final list and no, some did not deserve their own blog post because they just weren’t exciting. But that’s life! Great season….of tailgating at least! 🙂

  1. LSU game – Chipotle Cheddar Dip Mix (9/11/10)
  2. Eastern Michigan game – Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies (10/9/10)
  3. South Carolina game – Buffalo Chicken Dip (10/23/10)
  4. Florida game – Chex Mix (11/6/10) (no need to blog this one…..)
  5. UT game – Quatro Hummus from Trader Joes (11/20/10) (very delicious)

#98. Titans Game

#98 on my list was not just completed….it was completed with finesse and flare. Not only did I go to a Titans game (first one ever), but it was more importantly a STEELERS game, AND we got pregame sideline passes (huge thanks to a certain nice guy at Coke!). The experience was beyond incredible. And honestly, the best part was, I got to do it with one of my closest friends and biggest Steelers fan, Tess and her dad, Mr. Coleman. It was, by far, the best Sunday ever. I will let the pictures do the talking. And I will probably put up multiple posts with just pictures. Yes, there are that many. Oh, and most important of all…..STEELERS DOMINATED!!!

Tess and I at the house. 7am.

LSU Tailgate

My first tailgate of the season (though it was not THE first tailgate of the season) was ten times of fun. We have a tent set up for us this year in Vandyville and it’s a party. It is a learning process for us new Vandyville comers….you have to pay more for a table, you can drive up to the tent to drop off your stuff, and you can park closer than we thought. But we’ll be experts next year. The game last week was against LSU and even half of Vandyville was a puke yellow and purple. A small storm game through, complete with thunderstorms and lightning warnings. We hunkered down, piling everything and everyone to the middle of the tent and lowered the tent as low as we could. It passed quickly and the fun continued. I, as per usual lately, was an awful photographer and didn’t get many pictures. Next time.

And by the way, #52 on my 101 list is to take a different item to every tailgate. Unfortunately, since I worked all Saturday morning, I didn’t have time to be Suzie-homemaker-tailgate-extraordinaire. Fortunately, I had bought some yummy dip mixes in a cute little shop while visiting Lisa in St. Charles last month. I made a Chipotle Cheddar Dip Mix (made by Pepper Springs)  and it was delicious and had a great spicy kick to it. Paired with my favorite Tostidos Multigrain Tortilla chips, it made a perfect tailgate dip. More homemade next time (but maybe semi-homemade…it is a tailgate after all…)!! This is by far my favorite time of year.

Just mix with sour cream for deliciousness!!

Waiting out the storm

We’re just not going to mention what went on after the fun tailgate in the stadium. There’s no need to revisit misery.
