Bella Napoli

New restaurant 8 of 10 for #51 on my 101 list! Having my parents in town was the perfect time to try something new (and we did multiple!). I had heard of this little Italian place in Edgehill Village from one friend and my dad loves pizza more than anything. So on Cinco De Mayo (yes, blasphemy), while everyone else waited for hours for margaritas and nachos, my parents and I wandered into the hidden alley of Edgehill Village to find Bella Napoli.

The atmosphere was pretty great, especially for an authentic Italian pizzeria. Tables line the alley and luckily it was the perfect night for us to sit outside. My mom and I split the Melenzane con Ricotta – baked stuffed eggplant. Delicious and very cheesy. Then we shared a Sorrentino pizza with mozzarella, mushrooms, pancetta, and parmigiano. It was good, very fresh ingredients, but I think I liked my dad’s Calzone even better.

If you’re looking for some new, fresh Italian this is definitely the place to go!

7 restaurants down on #51 on my 101 list!! My friend Kati is getting married in June and her sister threw her bachelorette party here in Nashville! We had a late dinner at Sambuca, a trendy restaurant/bar in the heart of The Gulch. It’s pretty big with multiple levels with a patio on top (although we did not go up there as it was about 45 degrees outside). We sat in the main room downstairs. It’s large and open, but surprisingly not loud with chatter and other conversations. Our table was also right next to the stage, where there is live music every night.  The atmosphere is very trendy with dim lighting, dark colors, comfy chairs.

And of course, the important part: the menu. First of all, there is a very large drink and wine menu. I love when restaurants have mixed drink menus so I can try new things that I would never think to combine. And the best part was the “Skinny Bitch” drink selections. I got the Sinless Strawberry Mojito and it was delicious. The dinner menu has a wide range of small plate options, salad, soup, pizza, pasta, fish, and entrees. I wasn’t too hungry, so I got a Gorgonzola Salad with candied walnuts and a cup of shrimp and crab bisque. Both were amazing. I do have to go back, though, with more of an appetite to try to crab-stuffed salmon. Who’s with me??

This may be one of my new favorite places, for food or just for drinks! It would be a great place to just chill after work or for a late-night drink.

Park Cafe

This past weekend I got to add another new restaurant towards my goal for #51 on my 101 list! Nestled in the curve of Murphy Road in Sylvan Park sits the quiet Park Cafe. It is a cute old house converted into a restaurant (which seems to be a growing trend here). There didn’t appear to be much renovation done on the actual structure of the house. A small bar is at the very front, then tables wind around the different small rooms of the house, giving an intimate, quiet atmosphere even if it is crowded. The food was delicious. I got salmon, as I like to get fish when I am out anyway, which was served on potatoes and green beans. I would definitely recommend Park Cafe for a nice dinner out, great for date night or a relaxing girls night.

Burger Up

I took  my parents along on my quest to dine at 10 new Nashville restaurants (#51 on my 101 list). Friday night we went to Burger Up in the 12th South neighborhood. It was eclectic, delicious, and flavorful. They have the coolest restaurant story around: Currently, 10 Tennessee farms are represented on our menu.  Seasonally that number may fluctuate a bit.  You have no idea how proud I am to encourage thoughtful consuming!  You could visit either the Franklin Farmer’s Market or Nashville Farmer’s Market and recreate a vast majority of our menu. (from Burger Up website). That creates a freshness that is apparent in every bite. I had the Portobello Burger which was juicy and mouthwatering. We also had fried pickles as an appetizer….and again,, fresh homemade pickles (or at least they tasted like homemade).

I would definitely recommend Burger Up but get there early if you don’t want to wait forever!

Whiskey Kitchen

I am well on my way to getting to 10 new restaurants on my 101 list! For the last of Meghan’s birthday celebrations, we went to Whiskey Kitchen, where I had never been. It’s close to not counting as an actual restaurant visit, since it was bar time, but we did get a trio dip sampler later into the night. Definitely want to go back for actual dinner.

The atmosphere was New York City-esque, with an older crowd, more business people, etc. The biggest downside, and I am going to sound like an old fart, was that it was realllly loud. There were times that I couldn’t hear what was being said in the conversation. But it was a really good time and fun new place to discover!

These are our friends. We love them.

Taco Mamacita

For the first of Meghan’s birthday celebrations, we had a small girls dinner at Taco Mamacita (which added to my list of new restaurants to try in Nashville!). It had a great laid-back atmosphere, great for after-work relax time, family dinner, or girls night! The drinks are ok (wouldn’t say great) but the food was pretty great. I had 2 tacos (1 carnitas and 1 baja fish), both of which had great fusion flavors. The rice was also good. It’s definitely a fusion-style mexican and not your typical tex-mex, which was a nice change from the usual.
